High Storms
High Storms are massive supernatural storms that regularly sweep across Alesia. They resemble powerful hurricanes and blizzards, carrying immense quantities of divine energy across the continent.
The storms are believed to be a manifestation of the ongoing conflict between The Ten and the Old Gods for control of Alesia. As the two pantheons struggle for influence, their power spills into the mortal world in the form of these devastating weather events.
Overview
High Storms are among the defining features of life in Alesia. Entire cities have been built to withstand their fury, and much of Alesian culture revolves around preparing for their arrival.
The storms are characterized by powerful winds, torrential precipitation and brilliant green ribbons of light known as Stormlight.
The Weeping
For one month each year, High Storms cease entirely.
This period is known as The Weeping.
During the Weeping, the skies remain overcast and a gentle rain falls continuously across much of Alesia. Unlike the violent High Storms, these rains are calm and peaceful.
The Weeping occurs during the month of April and is viewed as a sacred time throughout the continent.
Many Alesians believe the Old Gods mourn during this period, while others claim the gods temporarily cease their conflict and allow the world a brief moment of peace.
The absence of High Storms during the Weeping makes it one of the safest times of year for travel.
